Product Description
- Watering: Newly planted camellias should be watered regularly and also during summer when they produce flowers; the soil should be checked about 4 inches down with a trowel to see if it is dry, and prolonged watering with hard tap water should be avoided.
- Feeding: Camellias should be fed in early spring with an ericaceous fertilizer, and feeding should not continue after the end of July as this can cause bud drop.
- Sunlight: Camellias prefer morning sun and dappled shade in the afternoon, and as they mature they can tolerate more sun.
- Soil: Camellias grow best in well-drained, slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5 and dislike lime.
- Planting: Camellias should be spaced at least five feet apart so they do not compete for water and nutrients, and should be planted at the same depth they were in their nursery container.
- Pruning: Camellias should be pruned to remove dead or damaged growth, helping to maintain plant health and encourage vigorous new growth.
